Dr. Brian Shah

Dr. Brian S. Shah is a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon with a subspecialty focus in temporomandibular joint (TMJ) reconstruction and facial surgery. His clinical practice is limited exclusively to facial reconstruction and TMJ surgery, reflecting a career-long commitment to this complex and underserved area of surgical care.

Dr. Shah completed his undergraduate studies at Miami University and earned his dental degree from The Ohio State University. He went on to receive his medical degree from Harvard Medical School and completed his general surgery and oral and maxillofacial surgery residency training at the Harvard teaching hospitals. It was during this training that he developed a deep interest in craniofacial surgery and the belief that form and function of the maxillofacial skeleton must be central to every diagnostic and treatment decision.

Following his training, Dr. Shah maintained a private practice in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago while teaching in academic medicine at Yale University. He subsequently assumed the leadership of an established TMJ specialty practice, which he has grown to offer the full continuum of TMJ surgical care—from arthroscopy and minimally invasive procedures to total joint replacement—ensuring that patients have access to the most appropriate intervention regardless of disease complexity.

Dr. Shah lectures nationally and internationally, and is known for teaching a logical, structured approach to the diagnosis and treatment planning of TMD patients grounded in the most current medical literature. His goal is to give clinicians clear, evidence-based frameworks they can apply directly in practice. He is regularly invited to speak at symposia, professional society meetings, and academic institutions on topics spanning TMJ reconstruction and the surgical management of complex maxillofacial conditions
